Thursday February 13, 2020

Mountain House Girls Varsity Basketball earned 2nd Place in the Western Athletic Conference with a 69-47 victory over the Pacheco Panthers on Senior Night where they recognized their 7 seniors: Hannah Ye, Julia Abellanosa, Kayleen Ramos, Ariana Dela Cruz, Katelyn Larson, Lyric Moore and Natalia Moore-Raygoza.

Moore-Rayzoga was specifically recognized to a standing ovation for breaking the all-time 3 pointers made career record previously held by 3x All-League alum Tatyana Jackson (2015-2018). Natalia entered the game with 151 makes. During this game, she added 4 more makes, giving her a total of 155!

Senior night festivities started immediately after the JV game when the seniors were introduced with their family & friends. After the teams warmed up, the Varsity basketball underclassmen sang the National Anthem live as a gift to the seniors that ended with a rousing ovation! Kudos to our underclassmen Maya Gorman, Reilyn Ursal, Denisse Tungol, Elizabeth Robertson, Isa Mejia, Sariah Fobert and Taylor McCutchen!

After the National Anthem, the gym lights were turned off and the basketball team’s hype video was played on the projector screen as the crowd waved glowsticks, adding to the festive atmosphere! All 7 seniors were introduced in the starting lineup to commemorate their Senior Night.

The senior starting lineup of Abellanosa, Ramos, Larson, Moore-Raygoza and De La Cruz was determined by an in-practice competition. The first 2 substitutions off the bench were Lyric Moore and Hannah Ye. This rotation scrimmaged against the underclassmen in practices, with this preparation helping end the 1st quarter with a 15-7 lead. Ramos left the game with a cut to her face, but re-entered later in the 1st playing with even more determination and heart.

The first two underclassmen substitutions – freshmen Sariah Fobert and Taylor McCutchen – entered the game with 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter, signifying the passing of the torch from seniors to freshman to continue the Lady Mustangs basketball culture for the next 3 years.

The Pacheco Panthers did not let the festivities affect their effort. They played hard, winning the 3rd quarter and closing the Mustangs lead to 10 points. The Mustangs 4th quarter started with underclassmen Ursal, Mejia, Fobert, Robertson and McCutchen who all provided that extra boost to extend the lead. Junior Maya Gorman re-entered the game and provided a defensive boost with multiple steals. The seniors re-entered the game with 5 minutes left and brought the lead up over 20 points, led by Lyric Moore and 3 pt makes by Katelyn Larson and Moore-Raygoza.

With this victory, Mountain has earned 2nd Place in the Western Athletic Conference, ending 1 game behind league champs Los Banos High. We congratulate Los Banos on finishing 1st in a very competitive league season!

The Mustangs now prepare for their 5th consecutive post-season appearance in 5 years of Varsity sport existence at the school! The playoff seedings are released over the weekend, with the playoff game scheduled at 7:00 PM Tuesday, February 18, 2020 (location and opponent to be determined).

Congratulations to all the Lady Mustang basketball seniors for an epic Senior Night and to the entire squad for finishing the season strong!
