The Mustangs Boys Varsity Wrestling Team won 5 out of 8 matches on Wednesday, but couldn’t overcome 12 forfeit points to fall to Lathrop 30-25. The Mustangs celebrated Senior night on Wednesday to honor Seniors AJ Hanifzada, Jaden Gonzales-Burnham and Dermick Vaughn. They also brought a ton of energy and aggressiveness to their Dual Meet. Junior Ryan Strout-Hearick got the night started for the Mustangs in the 120 pound match, winning by a score of 13-0. Sophomore Andres Hernandez won a 16-15 battle in the 132 pound match. The Mustangs then dominated the next 3 matches. Junior Cannon Waters, wrestling up two weight classes, won by first round pin in the 152 pound match, Senior AJ Hanifzada won by first round pin in the 160 pound match and Senior Jaden Gonzales-Burnham won by second round pin in the 170 pound match. In the Girls Dual, the Mustangs dominated, winning all 3 matches that were wrestled. Both teams picked up two forfeits each with the Mustangs winning the Dual with an overall score of 30-12. In the 111 pound match, Sophomore Leah Sauseda won by first round pin, Junior Michelle Poland won the 121 pound match by first round pin and Freshman Abigail Arunkumar won the 131 pound match by third round pin. No JV matches were wrestled as the Mustangs won the Dual by forfeit.
