The Mustangs turned an early deficit into a 27-18 halftime lead over the Orestimba Warriors of Newman in their third game of the Tracy Breakfast Lions/Tom Hawkins Girls Basketball Tournament on Friday at Tracy High.

The Mountain House girls trailed 12-6 early in the second quarter, but soon tied it up 16-16 on shots from senior Andrea Garcia and sophomore Maya Gorman. A 3-point shot from Julia Abellanosa sparked a 12-point run that put the Mustangs up 31-18 early in the third quarter.

The Mountain House team led the rest of the way, though Orestimba kept fighting back and cut the Mustangs’ lead to 39-37 early in the fourth quarter. Garcia then hit a 3-point shot, her fourth of the night, contributing to her game-high 30 points, as her team continued to outscore Orestimba through the rest of the fourth quarter.

In addition to Garcia’s contribution, the Mustangs also got eight points from Gorman and six from Ariana De La Cruz, who was also the Mustangs’ leading rebounder.
